If you’re a company director, person with significant control (PSC), or someone who files on behalf of a company, there’s a new requirement you’ll want to know about. From 18 November 2025, you’ll need to verify your identity with Companies House.
It’s part of the UK Government’s plan to make business more transparent and less attractive to fraudsters. Think of it as a digital handshake – a way of saying, “Yes, I’m real, and I’m responsible.”
Who needs to verify with Companies House?
If you’re involved in running a company, you’ll likely need to verify your identity. This includes:
- Company directors
- People with significant control (PSCs)
- Company secretaries or anyone filing on behalf of a company
- Authorised Corporate Service Providers (ACSPs) – like us
In short, if your name appears on the company paperwork, it’s time to confirm you’re a real person with real responsibilities – not just a name on a spreadsheet.
How to verify your identity?
There are two straightforward ways to do this:
1. GOV.UK One Login
You’ll need:
- A valid photo ID (passport, driving licence, BRP, etc.)
- Your current address and the year you moved in
- A smartphone or computer with a camera
The process is quick, secure, and free. You’ll receive a unique code once verified – keep it safe. It’s your digital key to the Companies House kingdom.
2. Let us handle it for you
As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider, Bright Tax Limited can verify your identity on your behalf. We’ll take care of the admin, so you can focus on running your business – or finally getting around to that coffee you’ve reheated three times.
When do you need to verify?
- New directors and PSCs: Must verify before appointment from 18 November 2025. Yes – you are right! – It will not be possible to incorporate a new limited company without verification of your identity!
- Existing directors and PSCs:
- Directors: You will have to include the verification code in your next confirmation statement after 18 November 2025.
- PSCs: Submit it via a separate online service within 14 days of your birth month or confirmation statement date.
- Other roles (like company secretaries): Your turn is coming – we’ll keep you posted.
What happens if you don’t verify?
Let’s just say it’s not a great idea. Without verification:
- You won’t be able to register or manage a company
- You could face fines or legal consequences
In other words, it’s a bit like trying to drive without a licence – not advisable, and definitely not worth the risk.
